Jannik Sinner has once again ascended to the pinnacle of men’s tennis, reclaiming the World No. 1 ranking after a hard-fought victory over rival Carlos Alcaraz in the Monte Carlo Masters final on Sunday, April 12, 2026. The 24-year-old Italian secured his first-ever Monte Carlo title, defeating Alcaraz in a tightly contested match with a final score of 7-6(5), 6-3.

This victory marks a significant achievement for Sinner, as it allows him to match Novak Djokovic’s record of winning the first three ATP Masters 1000 events in a single calendar year: Indian Wells, the Miami Open, and now Monte-Carlo. Sinner is also on an impressive 17-match winning streak and has now won four consecutive Masters 1000 titles dating back to the Paris Masters last November.

Alcaraz, the defending champion in Monte Carlo, acknowledged Sinner’s superior play in the crucial moments of the final. “I think the important moments, the important points, I didn’t play well,” Alcaraz stated after the match, conceding that Sinner “played unbelievable tennis when it mattered.” Despite the loss, Alcaraz expressed his respect for Sinner’s achievements, noting, “It’s impressive what you are doing. Just the second man in the Open Era to win the Sunshine Double and then Monte-Carlo.”

In the women’s circuit, Iga Swiatek has recently made a significant change in her coaching team. Following an unexpected second-round exit at the Miami Open, Swiatek announced her split with coach Wim Fissette. She has since hired Francisco Roig, a former coach of Rafael Nadal, to join her team. Swiatek is now preparing for the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, her first tournament with her new coach.

Looking ahead, Alcaraz has expressed a desire to play a full clay-court season but emphasized the importance of listening to his body after experiencing injuries in previous years. His participation in upcoming tournaments like Barcelona, Madrid, and Rome will depend on his physical condition.
